Fusion Garage's Grid 10 just won't die, preparing comeback as Compal's Smart Pad PBJ40

Usually, once a gadget gets canned it either just disappears or it ends up stumbling back under a different brand. Because, you know, some unfortunate manufacturer may have an orphaned stock to get rid of, or maybe it doesn't want to waste the expensive tooling developed for the failed product. Either way, judging by a fresh NCC (Taiwan's FCC, basically) filing dug up by our brethren over at Engadget Chinese, it looks like the Grid 10 from the now-defunct Fusion Garage may well crawl out of its grave just like that.

While there's still the "Grid 10" branding on the back of the tablet, the two-day-old NCC document recognizes Compal as the company brand (presumably it was Fusion Garage's OEM partner for this), and there's also a new but rather mundane name for the device: "Smart Pad," model "PBJ40." Sadly, there's not much else to look at here apart from the vanilla Android Froyo or Gingerbread (instead of Grid OS) sighting in the pics, as well as the Bluetooth and 802.11b/g/n WiFi mention.

So the question is: what will Compal do with this Smart Pad? Resurrect Fusion Garage in Taiwan? Unlikely (though Chandra does like to surprise people). Offload the lot to Taiwanese carriers or stores? We'll bet our money on that.

Ahead of the Bell: PriceSmart downgraded

NEW YORK (AP) ? An analyst lowered his rating for PriceSmart on Wednesday, saying economic risks have increased for the California-based company that runs U.S.-style membership shopping warehouse clubs in Latin America and the Caribbean.

David Strasser of Janney Capital Markets said in a client note that while Latin American economies are among the most attractive in the world due to their demographics and low debt levels, they are not immune from the volatility that is impacting the global economy.

"Panama is highly correlated to global trade, and other key geographies are impacted by global tourism and/or oil prices, all of which are affected by global economic activity," he wrote.

The analyst also said that the San Diego company faces limited competition in its current markets given their small size, but that it could face increased competition in Colombia from companies like Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Costco WholeSale Corp., as the country is large compared to others in the region and has significant growth opportunities.

Strasser cut PriceSmart to "Neutral" from "Buy" and reaffirmed a $75 price target.

PriceSmart Inc. shares finished at $78.22 on Tuesday. Its shares are down 7.2 percent from a 52-week high of $84.32 on May 4. Its shares traded as low as $56.25 in early October 2011.

iOS 6 App Store gets card-style search layout and genius recommendations

App Store enhancements are one of the many changes we'll see come this Fall with the release of iOS 6. Apple has been pushing out sporadic updates to the interface since the introduction of the beta. This time, it's card-style search results.

When searching for an app within the App Store under iOS 6, you'll see a card for each search result that you can flick right or left through instead of the list that now sorts search results under iOS 5.

If you're running the beta you'll also notice that genius recommendations have been turned back on. Purchases and other features will probably follow suit in later over-the-air updates.

While the new card-style search layout is appealing from a visual standpoint, I'm wary about how functional it will be in real life use. Thumbing through a huge list of apps in search of a particular one could be a daunting task. The current list view is easy to scroll through and shows more information on one page.

The App Store on iOS 6 has several visual enhancements but they seem to come at the cost of speed and functionality. I personally was perfectly happy with the current iteration of the App Store under iOS 5. If I wanted to leisurely browse through large amounts of apps I would jump to iTunes on the computer and do it there. When browsing from an iPhone or iPad, I expected a smooth experience that allowed me to find what I was looking for quickly. The new search feature seems like it's just going to slow users down, not help them get to content quicker.

Do you think you'll like card-style search better or will you sorely miss the old list view when you say goodbye to iOS 5 this Fall?

Important Dog Training Tips To Live By | ArticlePDQ.com

If you are completely lost on where to begin training your dog, you need not worry for you have already taken the first and most important step, which is looking for information or you would not be reading this. The information you need is laid out in this article.

Your dog must respect you in order for training to work. You need to establish your authority, or he will ignore your commands. Always walk in front, in the leadership position, letting your dog follow behind.

It is important to instruct visitors on how to respectfully approach your pet, especially if the visitors include small children. As a result, your dog might want to show he is the boss or jump on people who come to your home.

Make sure you are consistent when you train your dog. Write down a list of all the commands you use, and inform anyone who commands the dog to use the words on the list. Discuss with family members what methods to employ in encouraging good behavior by your dog. If different people in your household respond to the dog in different ways, it becomes confusing for the dog and less likely they will respond in the appropriate way.

If your dog has separation anxiety, it?s important that it learns to connect with more than one person. Allowing the dog to establish relationships with new people will lessen its dependence on the owner.

Use your dog?s name often to ensure you have its attention. Make sure to use the dog?s name constantly when you first have him, so he can make the connection with his name and paying attention. Choose a puppy name that sounds differently than other words your puppy may hear throughout the day.

Often, bad chewing habits are caused by anxiety. Keeping your pup in a crate or other doggy-proofed space and providing appropriate chew toys will keep him occupied until you arrive home.

Whenever possible, training a new puppy should become a family affair. You may have one member of the family that does much of the training with him, but by having the entire family take part in the training, he will learn that he must obey each person that lives in the home.

Avoid tug-of-war games when training a puppy. In addition to tug-of-war, games that involve wresting something away from your puppy or chasing each other in any respect, can entice the animal to bite or nip at your hands. You want to avoid having your puppy become accustomed to this behavior, so it is better to postpone these games until the dog is more mature and fully trained.

If you catch your puppy chewing something that he should not be chewing, put an immediate stop to it. This will help your puppy to learn what things he is allowed to chew and what he is not. He will then be less likely to chew on your belongings and instead will turn to his toys when he wants to chew.

One thing you might want to do is train your dog to hold a toy in his mouth. Each time he touches the toy with his mouth, click your clicker and give your dog a treat. Wait until he puts the toy near his mouth after he performs these actions a few times. As this happens, press the clicker and then offer the reward. If he holds it in his mouth, you can give him a reward.

Be sure to keep your dog active and engaged a great deal of the time. Dogs can easily become bored. A bored dog is very difficult to train. It is easier for your dog to focus if he is happy and well exercised. Make long walks or daily runs a part of your routine that you and your dog can look forward to.

Understanding what motivates your pet will give you a leg up in your training. Spend some time to learn what all about your dog ? what will work for him, what he likes, and which training techniques will be a waste of time. Offer your dog different training regimens, positive reinforcement and lots of love while training him. The happier and more satisfied your dog is, the more successful your training will be.

The daily training sessions with your dog should be fun. Playing with your dog helps build a stronger bond between dog and human, which encourages the dog to respond positively during training. Training can be a fun experience, however, getting some enjoyment for yourself and the dog through play is a good thing.

Since you now have what you need, you can use this information to properly train your dog. Knowing the proper training techniques is the only way to train your dog properly

Iraqi Kurdistan to keep pumping oil exports to September 15: sources

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq's Kurdistan will keep pumping its share of national oil exports until September 15, extending a deadline for the central government to make disputed payments to companies working in the autonomous region, Kurdish sources said on Saturday.

Kurdistan had warned it would stop oil shipments again at the start of September over the payments, but two Kurdish sources said the region had decided to give Baghdad more time for payment paperwork to be sorted out.

"We decided to extend the deadline for pumping crude to September 15 as a goodwill gesture, and to give Baghdad more time to resolve the payment issue," one source with Kurdistan's natural resources ministry told Reuters.

The extension signaled tensions were easing in Baghdad's long-running feud with Kurdistan over oil rights, territory and power-sharing, a dispute that is testing the country's uneasy federal union.

In April Kurdistan halted exports, saying Baghdad had not made payments to companies working there, but it restarted shipments on August 7 with a warning they could be halted again in a month if there were no payments.

Iraq says Kurdistan's oil shipments have fluctuated around 100,000 to 120,000 barrels per day since they restarted, below the 175,000 bpd that Baghdad says was agreed with Kurdistan.

"We want to send a message to Baghdad that we in Kurdistan are keen to help boost Iraq's exports. If the reply on the message was positive, then we will increase export levels from the region," the source said.

Iraq approved a payment of close to $560 million to oil producers operating in the north in return for their investment costs to develop oilfields in the Kurdish region. But officials are still waiting for the go-ahead.

Kurdish authorities say due payments that should be approved by central government could reach $1.5 billion, two Kurdish sources said.

Kurdish oil exports make up a fraction of Iraq's shipments, but the payment dispute feeds into a wider conflict between Iraqi Arabs and Kurds over autonomy, oil and land that risks upsetting Iraq's fragile sectarian balance.
