King P Morales picks Florida

Thu. June 28, 2012 |

King pitcher Brett Morales announced Wednesday night on Twitter that he has committed to Florida.

"Proud to be a Gator!" the 6-foot-2, 185-pound right-hander wrote. "Thanking God, my family, the people around me, and the opportunity to become a Gator!"

A second-team all-county selection, Morales recorded a 0.99 ERA in 49.1 innings, striking out? 58 batters while walking 14. Out of necessity, he filled in at second base after a teammate was suspended in the middle of the season and he hit .293 with seven doubles, a triple, home run? and 15 RBIs.

Morales recently dazzled scouts at the Perfect Game National Showcase in Minneapolis.

"Already, he shows a fastball in the 90-92 mph range and touched 93," Baseball America's Conor Glassey wrote June 19. "He has an athletic, 6-foot-2, 185-pound build and a loose, effortless delivery. Morales mixes in a very good 78-79 mph circle changeup and a mid-70s 12-6 curveball. He pounded the strike zone with all three of his pitches."

Morales is the third Hillsborough County rising senior to commit to the Gators, joining Durant P/SS Tyler Danish and Plant 1B Pete Alonso.
