The 2012 Relocation Reports: Montgomery County, Ohio

NAR Research has produced a total of 3,147 Relocation Reports for U.S. counties. The Relocation Report for each county presents information for that county on county?to?county migration flows within the United States, the average incomes of households moving between the specific county and other counties, demographic summaries of homeownership rates, and types of home mortgages (e.g., Conventional, FHA, VA, and FSA/RHS). The most recently available data are for 2010.

Dayton is the County Seat of Montgomery County. The area is known for manufacturing, which has been in decline, and research and development in aeronautical engineering, related to nearby Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The Dayton area is noted for defense, aerospace, and healthcare.

Total in-migration to the county was 10,071 households, of which 3,584 households came from out of state?for example,

  • Cook County, IL (97 households)
  • Marion County, IN (58 households)
  • Bexar, TX (39 households)

In-migration from in-state counties included Greene County (2,129 households) and Miami County (645 households). Total out-migration was 10,567 households, of which 4,450 moved to a different state? for example,

  • Cook County, IL (105 households)
  • Marion County, AZ (85 households)
  • Bexar, TX (72 households)

Out-migration to counties in Ohio included Greene County (1,717 households) and Warren County (887 households).

The homeownership rate for Montgomery County was reported as 64%. For home sales with mortgages, 66 percent were conventional, 28 percent FHA-insured, and 7 percent VA-guaranteed.

The average income of households moving into Orange County was $ 34,266, and the average income of households leaving the county was $ 40,426.
